Cross-border co-operation program of Hungarian-Romanian education institutes

The main objective of the project (HURO/0801/020) of the Faculty of Pedagogy at Szent István University (Szarvas) and Partium University (Oradea) is to develop a new type of intercultural discussion, which can start up the transfer of knowledge, the mutual innovation and the development of new educational and enhancement forms.

The goal is to enhance the professional identity, the mental condition and the debate strategies of pedagogues in the under-developed, under-innovated border areas and to activate the regional assets of the education.

Our project – „Enhancement of the intercultural competences of the pedagogue-communities in the border regions” is a message for a new type of thinking. Realizing common needs and interests can help peripheral territories to fall renew old traditions and develope joint innovation in Hungarian and Romanian educational institutions. The reforming of personal, professional, social and communicative competencies will be realized in an intercultural way.

The project involves 10 Hungarian and 8 Romanian communities of elementary and high school teachers with the participation of almost 850 teachers and education professionals. We are implementing a joint educational program, which on one hand could advert new professional, operational and training-education-development issues; and on the other and could enhance and strengthen personal, professional, social, communication and cultural competencies of teachers with group therapy methods.

We established education centers on both sides of the border, where one- or three-day trainings were held. The one-day vocational programs involved the participation of 45 teachers and education-supervisor persons, adding up alltogether to 6 events in Orosháza, Nagyszalonta, Békés, Gyula and Oradea. Tree-day intense therapy-developing meetings were held on 4 occasions, in Békés, Nagyvárad, Szeghalom and Oradea, with the participation of 39 pedagogues.
 

 

On the one-day vocational-methodology events presentations and demonstrations could be heard about modular-system education methods, project-methods, co-operative learning, competency-based education, inclusion and integration, social and lifestyle competencies, theoretical and practical matters, new assessment-measuring system and some non-faculty based educational issues.


Vocational day - Orosháza

The goal of the three-day training was to enhance personal and pedagogical competencies, conditioning of mental state with bibliotherapy, psychotherapy and fine arts therapy. We held events in Békés and Szeghalom with the attendance of 140 participants.

Besides the professional methodology, therapy treatments and exercises the host institute had the opportunity to introduce itself and to present its leading-edge pedagogic ambitions and results in the field of practical activities, so the theoretic and vocational presentations can be completed with methodic workshops and demonstrative trainings (individual treatment and differentiating with digital tables, pedagogic work for rehabilitation, ITC equipments and multimedia in class, theme-weeks with project method, workshops etc.) The specific type of intercultural discussion is to view plays in Jókai Theater with Romanian colleagues, also the introduction of local art history and literature heritage and the presentation of multicultural programs of schools and student clubs in Salonta.

The particular value of the project stage started in December of 2009 is the realization and implementation of new forms of  cross-border intercultural projects, organizing and managing regional education centers for consultation, recognition of the professional value of personal meetings and experience-exchange. We have completed the activity program of the first 6 months; the completion of further modules will help to widen our program and reach our goals.
